theMansionPurpose: helping people find their way back to God

Pastor Dan Schaeffer
I was in three broken homes before I was 15 years old. When I was about 15 my mother attempted suicide. I’ve had three fathers enter my life and leave my life, never to return. Life wasn’t good at the Schaeffer house. Like many people, a relationship with God wasn’t really on my radar. I had gone to church when I was a kid, and hated it. I believed in a god somewhere out there, but figured he was a pretty dangerous and capricious being, and so relegated him to the recesses of my thinking. A “chance encounter” with some people who had found the real Jesus and the real Christianity made me re-evaluate what I thought about God. I found the real Jesus, the real Bible, and the real Christianity and discovered that God had been gently leading me back to Him the whole time. If I can help anyone else find their way back to God, my life will have been well spent. You can find me on: Twitter
Pastor Jon Harris (Youth and College)
I grew up in a broken home. All I remember from childhood was my dad not being there and it was only my mom, my brother and me. I didn’t have a real relationship with my Father. Growing up my mom remarried and my dad now asked my biological dad if he could adopt me and my brother and he said yeah. That was a shock to me and it hurt. My mom always took me and my brother to church and we grew up hearing stories from the Bible but never really believed it. I knew there was a God but didn’t know who He was, where He was or if He even loved me or cared for me. Growing up I had different guys/men in my life who showed me what a real dad looked like, so I tried to be around them all the time because that was something I really wanted/searching for. Looking back at those times I can now see how God used the situations in my life that I saw as frustrating/hurting to help bring me back to Him. Until the summer before my senior year in High School I had not seen or trusted or believed that God really loved me because of all of those situations but through the men God put in my life helped me come to see the real Jesus and the real Love He has for me. Now all I want is to help others find their way back to God, just as those men were doing with me. Find me on:
Pastor Rolando Cuxil (Hispanic)
I was born and raised in Guatemala and I am the 3rd youngest of 13 children.  At the age of 18, God opened the door for me to come to the United States. While growing up, I went to church and had Christian parents, it wasn't until I was 19 when I truly decided to ask Jesus be my Savior. I have been involved in ministry for many years, serving as a youth pastor for various churches in the Santa Ynez Valley, playing drums on different worship teams, and sharing the gospel with whoever the Lord leads me to. I've been married to my amazing wife for 5 1/2 years. I enjoy traveling, camping and BBQ'ing. I'm excited to see how the Lord will use me to further His kingdom.
Eben Drost (Worship Director)
I was born in Redlands, California. My birth certificate says "Charles Eben Drost", but like the other boys in my family, I go by my middle name. Eben is the Hebrew word for "Rock", and I am reminded that God is my rock and my salvation. Some of the things that make me happy are the people I love, good music, good humor, the outdoors, and life long learning. If I had to summarize my testimony, I would say that before I fell in love with God, I didn't really sing. But now I do! And I love joining all the saints in worship. If I could only highlight one verse in the Bible, it would probably be Luke 18:27- "Jesus replied, "What is impossible with man, is possible with God".
Melanie Cuxil (Children's Ministry Director)
I was born and raised in Santa Barbara and am the oldest of 4 children. My parents became Christians when I was about 2 1/2, so from what I can remember I was raised in a Christian home. I was one of those kids who asked Jesus into their heart every single week at Sunday School...until my mom told me that once I asked Jesus into my life He would always be with me and never leave me. When I was in high school, I really knew that I needed to commit my life to Jesus and choose to follow Him, and so I demonstrated this by being baptized. After high school, I pursued a degree in Culinary Arts, but also took Early Childhood Education classes. I've been involved in Children's Ministry for over 10 years. I am currently a preschool teacher at a local Christian preschool. I love children and seeing them come to put their trust in the Lord. My husband and I have been married for 5 1/2 years. I enjoy cooking, reading, traveling and camping.  I look forward to serving the Lord here at Shoreline Community Church and ministering to the children in the neighborhood.

I confess, I failed retirement! So I am grateful to be one of the newest members on the staff of Shoreline. After graduating from Westmont with a BA in English and Sociology, I spent most of my working career as a follower of Jesus Christ cleverly disguised as a purchasing/inventory control manager for manufacturing companies in Santa Barbara. Now I get to daily work and serve our Lord openly with a fantastic team of believers. Honestly, it’s getting to live Psalm 100 every day!!
When I’m not serving in the church office, or the tech board on Sunday morning, I enjoy living in Santa Barbara with long walks and hikes, good stories, good music, good coffee, dreaming up places to visit, and, most importantly, doing it all with my best friend, my husband, Rick.
